Dustin Jorgenson: Scuba Diving

As the owner of Jorgenson Companies, Dustin Jorgenson is a busy professional. The Jorgenson Companies has multiple business divisions that are all family owned and operated. When he is able to find the time to get away from it all and unwind, Dustin Jorgenson enjoys many outdoor activities, including skiing, fishing, snowmobiling, camping, ATV riding, hiking, boating, rock climbing, and rappelling.

Dustin Jorgenson also has a passion for scuba diving, and has a few tips for anyone who wishes to the skills needed for self-contained underwater breathing apparatus. There are three main things that Dustin Jorgenson recommends: work only with certified shops and instructors, do an introduction dive, and always obey the local laws wherever you dive.

Dustin Jorgenson recommends doing an introductory dive before you commit to any classes. Oftentimes, he says, newcomers will sign up for a class only to discover that they have a previously unknown fear of being underwater, which would make scuba diving impossible. Dustin Jorgenson says that many certified shops are willing to put part of the fee from your introduction dive toward your scuba classes if you go ahead and sign up.

Dustin Jorgenson says there are two types of scuba diving certification: the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) certification, and Scuba Schools International (SSI). As long as one of these certifications is available, you’ll know the training will comply with all safety regulations.

The third piece of advice that Dustin Jorgenson offers is to always obey local laws. If you dive in the tropics, for example, there may be laws against taking coral from dive sites, or against getting too close to underwater life.

Above all, Dustin Jorgenson recommends that you get out there and try something new and have fun while doing it.
